VAMPİR DİASPORASINI OKUMAK: OCTAVİA BUTLER’IN FLEDGLING ROMANINDA MELEZLİK VE DİASPORİK BİLİNÇ

This article by applying diaspora theories to Octavia Butler’s vampire novel Fledgling (2005), will engender a critical engagement with the issues of difference and hybridity. By examining oscillating relations between hybrid protagonist Shori, her human symbionts, diasporic community, this study reflects on complexity condition; especially, conflicting claims belonging where celebration hybridity can easily go hand in ethnocentric articulations nationhood. The focus paper be threefold. first part unpack historical scope Ina diaspora, highlighting three constitutive elements experience which are dispersion, homeland orientation, boundary maintenance. second sheds light problematic nature Ina/human relationship termed as ‘mutualistic symbiosis.’ And last interrogate identity Shori Matthews, questioning whether cross-breed Afro-American genes really hold potential for boundary-crossing write scripts survival necessity embracing diversity change without being dichotomized national politics.
